How to download and import the eConsult templates and protocol in EMIS Web with Template Manager
Benefits
We have created EMIS templates and protocols to help practices process eConsults in a consistent and efficient manner. It will also enable you to run accurate and meaningful reports on eConsults.

Please note – the downloaded file will not open when clicked on. They have to be saved on your computer and imported into EMIS. The instructions to install the templates and protocol are as follows.
1. Download the templates and protocol
- Please note that this can only be opened in EMIS Web
- Please review the training videos before starting the process
- Make a note of the location where the downloaded files are saved
- There are four files in total

2. Import the templates and protocol
- In template manager select the folder you wish to save them in, on the left-hand menu. To access Template manager:
- Click on EMIS button
- Scroll down to configuration and
- Select template manager
- Click the Template & Protocols tab
- Select “import” in the ribbon
- Select the eConsult – clinical V2 template and select open
- Repeat steps 1-4 for the other two templates and lastly the eConsult protocol
- It will ask you where you want to save the concepts – select the folder you wish to save them to, and then click “OK”
3. Set the trigger
- Select the eConsult protocol in template manager
- Right click and select properties
- Select the trigger tab
- Select Add
- Select “add consultation” from the system trigger menu
- Select “always run” from the run mode menu
4. Test run
- Select a dummy patient
- Add a consultation and put in the code 9G6
- Save the consultation
- Open another consultation
- The protocol should run – click the first option and check the template loads
- Save the consultation then delete it
- Repeat steps 4-6 trying out each option to check the template works
5. eConsult outcome reports
- Open ‘Population Reporting in EMIS’
- Select ‘Import file’
- Select either ‘Admin eConsults.xml’ or ‘Clinical eConsults.xml’
- Click ‘Import’

7. How to install eConsult outcome reports
Practices must ensure to check that their total eConsults matches their eConsult report for the period they run the report.
For example: Our monthly eConsult report for January might have 30 eConsults for the month, and the clinical system report might have 10. This would highlight that some of the eConsults have not been coded.
8. Still not working?
Any issues experienced with installing the templates are commonly caused by incorrect installation.
If you are experiencing difficulties with your templates please uninstall and re-install following the above guide and watching the training video at the top of this page.
